Community Involvement
and Social Value
As a longstanding East
Kent-based business with a history that stretches over 145 years, we are a
major local employer. As such, we recognise the importance of ensuring that our business activities
deliver real and tangible benefits to the local communities in which we work,
and are strongly committed to demonstrating this in a number of ways.
Our
Social Value philosophy and policy is centred around the 2015 UN Sustainable
Development Goals (SDG) developed to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure
prosperity for all by 2030.
Charity Donations and Fundraising
We keenly support a
number of charitable causes, regularly making donations and agreeing
sponsorship of local clubs and other community groups. Our chosen charity of
the year for 2023 is the Margate RNLI Lifeboat Station, for which we have
organised a variety of fundraising events throughout the year, including a charity
golf day, a go-karting tournament and a 5-a-side football competition.
Sponsorship
We are proud main
sponsors of Kent Cricket and Ramsgate Football Club, supporting their wider
community activities such as the Health, Activities and Food holiday programme
for local schoolchildren.
Kent-Based Supply Chain
As
a major employer in East Kent, the vast majority of our supply chain
and material suppliers are Kent-based businesses with whom we have worked
closely with for a number of years. We continually look to expand our network
of relationships and regularly attend 'Meet the Buyer' events as part of
our commitment to creating opportunities for new people and businesses.
WW
Martin Employment, Apprenticeship and Training Programme (EATP)
We operate a highly successful EATP which creates and
provides opportunities for a whole host of different people, including but not limited
to young persons, over 50s, hard to reach groups including long term unemployed
(NEETs), school and college leavers, lone parents, ex-offenders and ex-service
personnel in Kent.
This
includes providing T-Level industry placements for 16-19 year olds;
Traineeships – focusing on 16-24 year olds; Apprenticeships for both young and
mature persons; Work Experience Placements; Job Mentoring and Local Employment
opportunities.
