Groundworker Apprenticeship (WWM Civils)

Groundworker Apprenticeship (WWM Civils)

This apprenticeship course is for people who want to gain a vocational qualification in civil engineering, while gaining industry experience.

You will learn a host of skills including concreting, excavation activities, levelling and setting out, as well as the process involved in basic project management and key health and safety legislation.

You will gain comprehensive practical experience in the featured categories of training.

Entry Requirements

To apply, you must have a minimum of GCSE Grade 4 or Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths and English. You will need to submit a CV and covering letter to WWM Civils, a WW Martin group company.

Programme Details

As a Construction Groundworker Apprentice, you will be enrolled with an external training provider. The course will be delivered through a mix of hands-on experience on site with WWM Civils and structured learning.

On successful completion, you will earn a Level 2 Construction Groundworker qualification.

You will gain hands-on experience on site with WWM Civils, alongside training delivered by an external training provider.

You will have routine progress reviews with your Line Manager. An Apprenticeship Trainer will provide on-site support through regular visits, offering guidance and monitoring your development.

The course covers practical principles in:

  • Drainage
  • Concrete
  • Levelling and setting out
  • Block paving
  • Kerbing
  • Brickwork
  • Excavation support
  • Working at height
  • Confined space operations
  • Small tools operation
  • Movement of plant
  • Manual handling.

  • You will learn basic skills, knowledge and awareness in:

  • Interpreting information
  • Risk assessments and method statements
  • Basic civil engineering methods
  • Construction elements
  • Effective communication
  • Basic project management
  • Site communication
  • Earthworks
  • Health and safety.

    The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and the ability to multitask efficiently.

    Previous experience in an administration role is preferred.

    Job Role

    This is an opportunity to join the Business Development team at one of the largest main contractors in Kent. Your primary responsibilities will be to generate new opportunities, manage the future work pipeline, and introduce new clients to the business.

    Accountabilities

    Reporting to the Senior Management Team/Business Development Manager.

    Key Tasks and Responsibilities

    • Identify and develop new business opportunities within Kent.
    • Generate leads, manage relationships, and build rapport with potential clients and other construction professionals.
    • Network at events, conferences, and industry functions, as well as assist with co-ordinating internal events.
    • Manage both short-term and long-term pipeline opportunities.
    • Track tender and planning portals to identify, follow up on, and manage targeted business opportunities.
    • Gather and manage client feedback.
    • Provide regular reports to the Senior Management Team.

    Essential Requirements

    • Previous experience in a similar role, ideally within the construction sector.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • A positive attitude and ability to work as part of a team.
    • Confidence and motivation to represent the company at events.
    • Strong organisational skills.
