WW Martin is Supporting National Apprenticeship Week 2018
“Apprentices are key to the future of the construction industry with the demand for skilled workers at extremely high levels.”
As a business with a 140 year history in the County - we recognise the importance of helping to create the 'workforce of tomorrow' particularly in the construction industry.
The 11th National Apprenticeship Week (NAW 2018) is running from the 5th to 9th March 2018.
During the week employers and apprentices from across England come together to celebrate the success of apprenticeships whilst encouraging even more people to choose apprenticeships as a pathway to a great career.
The theme for the #NAW2018 is ‘Apprenticeships Work’. Showcasing how apprenticeships work:
- for individuals
- for employers
- for the community
- for the wider economy
Working with Kent County Council (KCC), WW Martin are helping to support and promote ‘Made in Kent’. This campaign led by KCC encourage's people in Kent to learn about the advantages being introduced for apprentices.
We are able to operate great variety of apprenticeship trades within our business, particularly as we directly employ over 40 highly skilled and experienced operatives who are able to act as mentors to apprentices.
Our trades/placements include:
- Plastering
- Painting and decorating
- Bricklaying (we operate our own gang of bricklayers as an additional resource to supply chain relationships)
- Civil engineering (through WWM Civils, our sister business)
- Site Management
- Quantity Surveying
- Estimating
These trades/placements refer to the opportunities we are able to offer directly ourselves. We are however also able to work with our supply chain partners who we work with on a regular basis to see if there are other trades we can offer.Previously this has included:
- Electrical
- Plumbing, and
- Scaffolding
Key to the development of our business is the investment we make in our staff. The creation and delivery of apprenticeship placements is central to this approach and is something that we pride ourselves on.
On that note we have had a quick catch up with Connor Hyde, our newest apprentice, who is training to be a Site Manager….
Why have you chosen this route into the industry?
What skills have you improved on in this apprenticeship?
To future candidates, why should they choose an apprenticeship?
