Turner Contemporary Link with WW Martin
WW Martin are working in partnership with the Turner Contemporary to assist them with an exhibition by Carl Andre. We have helped supply the materials for workshops.
Carl Andre is one of the most influential artist of the twentieth century. By reducing sculpture to its most basic elements and using ordinary industrial materials such as wood, bricks, steel and aluminium, Andre helped to redefine the possibilities of sculpture.
This exhibition is Andre's first in a UK public gallery for over ten years, it brings together eight sculptures made between 1967 and 1983. At the heart of the exhibition, and of Andre's practice, is a concern with materials, which for Andre has always meant the common materials of everyday production wood, bricks and metals such as aluminium, copper, steel, magnesium and lead. Andre selects standard, commercially available units of these materials for his sculptural arrangements without altering them.
