Construction Update: South Borough School in Maidstone

Appointed by Kent County Council, WW Martin are working on site at the South Borough School in Maidstone to expand a primary school from a 1FE to a 2FE (Forms of Entry) school.

With works being undertaken within a live education environment, all activities are being carefully planned and managed to avoid disruption to the running of the existing school and to ensure works to the new school progress to programme.

This month, work on site has commenced to the main structure of the building. Our progress photos show the installation of the Structural Insulated Panels (SIPS) which have been constructed off site before being delivered and now installed on site. The SIPS timber system which mainly consists of pre-formed walls and floors has helped to reduce the amount of activity undertaken on site and reduce the construction period. The thermal efficiency of the SIPS will also help to enhance the energy efficiency of the school when complete and in use.
