Contract Award – Student Block, Giles Lane
We are delighted to have been awarded the contract to build new high quality student accommodation in Canterbury.
Designed by specialist student architects Church Lukas, the new three-storey building will provide 91 purpose-built student accommodation units, featuring cluster flats and studios, alongside amenity areas and associated external works.
Located on Giles Lane in Canterbury, the new student accommodation will provide ensuite bedroom units (utilising offsite MMC in the form of bathroom pods), communal lounges, and kitchens to meet the modern needs of students studying at the University of Kent.
Sitting adjacent to an area of ancient woodland, green design principles and sustainability are prominent features of the new building design. PV panels will feature extensively on the site and a green roof will be used to further enhance sustainability credentials.
As one of five new buildings to be built across the wider site, our contract to deliver to ‘Block E’ forms a key component of the extensive works planned. This will ultimately see a vibrant new central student ‘village’ provided which connects to the existing student campus at the University of Kent.
With work already having commenced on site, our initial phase of works involves the clearance of the existing site and the formation of the groundworks in advance of the main building structure later this year. This main phase will see us utilise an innovative light gauge steel frame system to form the main structure of the building, helping to drive construction programme efficiencies and ensure the new building really begins to take shape later this year.
Regular project updates will feature on our website and social media platforms.
