Contract Award - The Beacon, Walmer, Dover

Building on our strong education experience in Kent, we are very pleased to have secured the contract with Kent County Council to deliver new teaching facilities for a satellite of The Beacon Folkestone school.

Located on the site of the former Walmer Science College, KCC are undertaking a phased refurbishment of many of the existing and disused buildings to provide much needed new education spaces.

KCC have previously identified that when pupils leave the primary sector, there are insufficient local specialist places and pupils have to travel out of the Dover District to receive appropriate support. Their plan to open this new satellite of the Beacon at the Walmer site will help to provide further specialist provision for pupils with Profound, Severe and Complex Needs (PSCN) within the Dover district.

Phase one of our works will involve the complete refurbishment of the former Compass Centre buildings to provide an Early Years and Key Stage One block for 40 special educational needs (ASD) pupils.

Particular aspects of the works will include remodelling of internal spaces, the erection of an external canopy, replacement of all windows and external doors, enhanced and renewed car parking, drop-off and pick-up areas, external landscaping and a safe and secure new boundary to the new school buildings.
