Progress Update - The Beacon School, Walmer
As construction partner to Kent County Council, we are delighted to share progress on the redevelopment of The Beacon School, Walmer. Building on our successful Phase 1 works in 2021, this ambitious project will create a modern all-through SEN facility for pupils aged 3-16 with a primary diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder.
The refurbishment works are advancing well, with new windows and external doors being installed, alongside first fix carpentry, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing works. Structural alterations to external canopies and roof repairs are underway, while early decoration has begun, and ceiling installation is set to follow.
The new build is also taking shape. Roof membrane works are progressing, external wall construction is advancing, and preparations for cladding and brickwork are in place. Internally, floors have been insulated in readiness for underfloor heating and screed, with lightweight partition walls now being installed. External windows, doors, and curtain walling will commence shortly.
On the grounds, excavation for the MUGA and retaining walls is ongoing, new access roads are being formed, and extensive drainage systems have been installed.
This redevelopment will transform the former Walmer Science College site, providing modern teaching facilities, specialist spaces, and enhanced sports and dining amenities, ensuring a first-class learning environment for pupils and staff alike.
