Project Completion - Emergency Department Expansion, QEQM Hospital Phase 2
This week, we were delighted to successfully hand over Phase 2 of our extensive expansion and refurbishment of the Emergency Department at QEQM Hospital, Margate.
This phase of work provides the hospital with a new Rapid Assessment & Treatment area, including 12 fully kitted out individual treatment bays, a mental health de-escalation room and two assessment rooms, an en-suite isolation room, and reception and administration spaces.
The complex logistics of all elements of the scheme were carefully planned to enable the RAT provision to meet clinical need by remaining operational throughout, with disruption kept to an absolute minimum while this extensive work was carried out in close proximity to ‘live’ areas of the hospital.
It follows the opening last November of a new children’s emergency department, new treatment areas for adults, new entrance, waiting area and much-needed space for staff to work, learn and rest.
Thomas Lovegrove Bacon, Senior Strategic Development Manager at East Kent Hospitals said:
“WW Martin work closely with the hospital teams to deliver much-needed new clinical areas for our patients. They are considerate and responsive to our staff and patients during what is a complex expansion programme at QEQM Hospital.”
Joanna Williams, head of nursing for urgent and emergency care at QEQM said: “We are proud of the improvements we are making which mean that we can see and treat more patients sooner in much bigger, better and friendlier surroundings.
“Thank you to the many hospital teams and WW Martin for helping us make these improvements and to our local community for your patience while we transform the emergency department.”
The final phase of the department’s transformation is now underway, creating a new resuscitation area, where some of the sickest patients are treated; and a new entrance for patients arriving by ambulance.
