Project Completion - Godwin Road

Thanet Council acquired the original four storey detached Victorian property at 1 Godwin Road in 2011 due to its deteriorating condition.

In 2013 artist Alex Chinneck was given consent to make alterations to the front of the building for the “From the Knees of my Nose to the Belly of my Toes” art installation, know as ‘Slippy House’. WW Martin donated labour and materials for the construction of the installation, which attracted visitors to Margate from all over the world.

The exciting installation became a treasured feature in Margate after it was transformed it into unique art by making it look like the facade had slipped into the front garden. Part of the upper floor of the four-storey property was also exposed as curving bricks, windows and a door below gave the illusion that the front of the house was sliding away.

After a year long installation 'Slippy House' was demolished completely in 2016 to make way for redevelopment.

Now complete, we have successfully handed over the redevelopment of the site comprising of a new build, 4-storey residential property.

The new building has been designed and constructed to aesthetically sympathise with the surrounding Victorian style properties. Works included the stabalising and damp proofing of the existing basement, which had remained from the original building and the construction of a new 4 storey property comprising of 2no 3-bedroom maisonette homes.
