Project Completion - Poppy Fields, Melbourne Avenue, Ramsgate

An innovative award-winning housing scheme to provide 55 affordable new homes, Poppy Fields is our most recent partnership project with Orbit Homes.

Completed in November 2023, the project provides a mix of two, three and four-bedroom homes at Melbourne Avenue in Ramsgate.

Poppy Fields is an excellent example of how redundant parcels of land can be transformed to provide much needed new housing, especially given the demand for new low-cost housing in the south east.

The scheme has received multiple plaudits for the quality of construction and the approach we have taken to consider the environmental performance of each new home.

It demonstrates best practice in its application to sustainable design and construction methodologies, delivering significant improvements against benchmark industry levels.

Underlining Poppy Field’s sustainable credentials, it is the first new-build residential project to be awarded a ‘Green Plaque’ accreditation, an independent assessment of a scheme’s environmental achievements.

In addition, it has won several awards, including most recently the accolade of ‘Kent Construction Project of the Year’ in the Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce Awards 2023.

The project has also promoted and supported the local community, with a high percentage of the contract value being procured and spent with local businesses.

Numerous skills, training and employment opportunities were created, with notable examples including site tours for over 100 construction students from the East Kent College Group; alongside opportunities for our own apprentices to work on the project.

It is our most recent land-led opportunity working with Orbit Homes in Thanet, following the 2022 completion of Cottington Gardens in Cliffsend, which provided 64 new affordable homes.

This was a highly successful project and a notable success for 2023.
