Project Progress - Age UK
We are currently on site at Age UK, Herne Bay for the delivery of a new 30mx5m 2-storey extension to the existing, operational Day Care Centre. The new facilities will provide an enlarged Communal Area on the Ground Floor with Offices for Administration on the 1st Floor. Incorporating large windows and central light-wells, the project will create a fresh interior environment to suit the needs of Age UK and their guests with an exciting new timber and zinc clad external facade.
Despite the recent wet weather, works are progressing well on site with the superstructure for the new enlarged community area and the erection of the temporary roof now complete. Installation of the new roof is now underway with future works to include the formation of openings into the existing building and the addition of car parking spaces and soft landscaping externally.
Due to the nature of the site and its vulnerable residents, ‘Special Measures’ have been introduced following the Covid-19 outbreak with the Site taking ‘extra precautions’ for the Workforce following Government Guidelines promoting ‘Social Distancing’ including travel to work, temperature checking, rotational working, staggered breaks and providing additional Sanitisers and cleaning.
When complete, the scheme will be vital to Age UK in helping to support the increasing needs of local older people in Herne Bay and Whitstable by offering additional day care facilities and further office accommodation for rent to local charities and community groups, the revenue from which contributes to support the running of the Charity.
