Project Progress - QEQM ED Expansion, Margate

Our works on site at the QEQM Hospital, Margate in partnership with East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust, 2gether Solutions, HMY Architects, Sweco and Modus are progressing well.

The last few weeks has seen significant progress on site being made as we undertake major alterations to the QEQM Hospital as part of a multi-million investment project to expand the existing hospital site.

The video at the bottom of this page provides an excellent insight into the complexity of the works being undertaken by the team and wider project team partners.

With space at a premium at the QEQM, an existing internal courtyard is being utilised to install a new steel frame structure which will be integrated into the existing hospital building and create a significant amount new space as is required.

In addition, working closely with the hospital team, the Ambulance bay has been temporarily relocated and new access routes to the hospital site for pedestrians and vehicles have been created.This phase of the works has enabled us to create the necessary access through the existing hospital building to the courtyard area and begin work to extend the front area of the existing hospital building..

Considering the magnitude of this work, which includes the protection of vital hospital services, all works are being stringently planned and coordinated so no disruption to the operation of the hospital is encountered.

When complete, QEQM will benefit from a new child assessment ward and pediatric unit, an expansion of the majors and rapid response units, a mental health suite and a new staff support unit and breakout rooms.
