School engagement activities at Lydden Primary, Dover
We spent an enjoyable and entertaining day last week with the children of Lydden Primary School, where we are currently on site building their new school hall. The visit formed part of our school engagement initiatives with our client Kent County Council.
The project's Site Manager Paul and our Business Development Co-ordinator Zoƫ spent time in each class, teaching the children how to stay safe around construction sites, before looking 'behind-the-scenes' at the machinery, materials and methods used in in their own build.
We also talked to the older children about job roles and career opportunities in the construction industry - hopefully encouraging some to become our site managers of the future!
The children were clearly very excited about their new school hall, and asked many thoughtful questions about the building process. They had all been lucky enough to watch the demolition of the original hall, and were particularly fascinated by the sorting and recycling process of the waste materials on site.
When complete, our work at Lydden will provide the school with a much-needed new sports and assembly hall linked to their existing building by a new corridor, with associated spaces for storage and dining.
