Project Completion - Teynham Parochial CE Primary School

We are proud to announce the successful completion and handover of a brand-new, state-of-the-art school building for Teynham Parochial Church of England Primary School in Swale, delivered on behalf of Kent County Council (KCC).

Following extensive planning and collaboration between our team, KCC, the school, and the Diocese of Canterbury, the school staff and pupils moved into their new school building on Tuesday 10th June.

The new school marks the completion of the first phase of an £11 million project, made possible through KCC’s Basic Needs funding programme.

Designed to meet increasing demand for school places in the area, the new two-storey building replaces the original 1970s structure that had reached the end of its lifespan. It provides high-quality teaching and learning spaces and has been built with the future growth of the school in mind. From September 2026, the school will expand from a 1 Form Entry (FE) to a 2FE, with Reception class numbers doubling from 30 to 60 pupils and a full capacity of 420 pupils in the years to come.

The new building includes 14 classrooms, a nursery, specialist SEN resource rooms, a sensory space, and a dedicated food technology room. Additional features include a practical skills classroom, a learning resource library, and areas for breakfast and after-school clubs. Sustainability has also been a key focus, with 256 solar panels installed on the roof.

Liz Pearson, Headteacher at the school, said:

“It has been amazing so far. We have 205 pupils and they have settled in so well.

“It has been incredible watching the children’s reaction to the building. I’ve had pupils coming up to me all week telling me how much they love their new classrooms. It feels like we have been here a long time already, it is better than I could have expected.

“The support we have had from the parents and local community has been overwhelming.”

The next phase of works, now underway, will see the safe demolition of the former school building. This will be followed by the creation of new external facilities including soft landscaping, a new car park with EV charging points, cycle shelters, and a fenced Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA), scheduled for completion in December.

Darren Offen, Senior Site Manager at WW Martin, said:

"We are proud to be working as a trusted construction partner on this important project. It has been a real pleasure to collaborate closely with them throughout the process to help realise their vision for the new school.

“With the main building now successfully completed, we look forward to continuing this strong partnership as we move into the next phase of works, including the safe demolition of the existing school and the delivery of new high-quality external spaces, such as the new car park and Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA)."

Creating Learning Opportunities

Alongside the construction programme, we supported a number of education and community engagement initiatives, providing valuable learning opportunities through our Employment, Apprenticeship and Training Programme (EATP) throughout the build.

As part of the school’s STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) Week, we delivered interactive classroom sessions tailored to each year group and supervised site tours for pupils.

The project has also supported the development of young people in the wider community, including a full-time apprenticeship created for a former Westlands School pupil and work experience placements for local students. Bricklaying students from MidKent College also joined our team on site to develop their skills, and carpentry students have crafted bird boxes that will soon be installed around the school grounds.

We are immensely proud of this project and look forward to completing the final phase later this year.
