New build construction works at Bennett Memorial Diocesan School are complete.
The new build construction works at Bennett Memorial Diocesan School in Tunbridge Wells were successfully completed earlier this month in time for the new school buildings to open in September 2020.
Awarded the contract by Kent County Council in 2019, our team haved worked closely with KCC and Bond Bryan Architects to successfully deliver a Further Education Basic Need Expansion to increase the school which originally opened back in 1953 from a 1FE to a 3FE school.
The increased capacity of the school is a result of the works which involved the erection of a new 2 storey teaching block to provide a range of general and ICT teaching spaces, a flexible hall space and additional staff facilities to accommodate the 2 Form Entry expansion (equivalent to 300 additional students).
Now the new build part of the contract is complete, works will progress in earnest to the other areas of the work which are currently on site with a later scheduled completion date. This include a series of extensions to the existing school buildings, namely the Ann Scott building, and the catering/kitchen areas to improve science facilities and provide additional capacity in the kitchen/servery.
We are also undertaking a number of additions and alterations to the external areas of the school, including the provision of an additional 22 car parking spaces, improvements to the bus drop off area to reduce disruption/congestion at key drop off/pick up times, and improvements to the existing pedestrian pathways/new pedestrian link across the site in order to better separate pupil and vehicle movements.
