As a main construction partner to Kent County Council (KCC), we are delighted to have been appointed to undertake the further redevelopment to The Beacon School, Walmer.
This exciting new project follows the Phase 1 contract we completed back in 2021 to refurbish the existing Compass Centre building, providing for 40 pupils across Early Years and KS1.
With planning now secured and all works given the green light, our new contract includes Phases 2 and 3 combined. This positive news will see us further redevelop the former Walmer Science College site in partnership with KCC to provide state-of-the-art education facilities for SEN pupils aged 3-16; helping to provide a new all-through provision for pupils with a primary SEN diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder.
With our works continuing at pace on site, the demolition of the original 1960s main building, (deemed as no longer fit for purpose for the delivery of the current curriculum) will be replaced by a new modern teaching facility. Specifically, a completely new L-shaped building consisting of two wings will be constructed, together with associated car parking and external learning spaces.
Extensive refurbishment of a series of existing buildings will also be carried out to provide specialist teaching rooms, social, administrative and support spaces, new kitchen and dining facilities, a sports hall, gym and changing areas.
