The delivery of Phase 1 of a new Intensive Treatment Unit (ITU) to provide eight new hospital bed bays.
Appointed by East Kent Hospitals NHS Trust to deliver these critical works for the William Harvey Hospital (WHH) in Ashford, our team have worked hard to deliver the project in the busy hospital site in just 10 weeks in order to make the new facilities available to receive patients as soon as possible.
The project involved the reconfiguration of an existing ward to deliver the new unit, allowing the hospital to free up space in the Emergency Department in light of the current COVID-19 pandemic.
The state-of-the-art ITU, completed to programme, used an innovative ‘Smart Glass’ system. The frosted glass separating each bed bay uses an electrical charge to make it transparent, allowing for immediate patient observation when needed, then reversed back to a frosted glass to offer the patient privacy. This technique is the first of its kind to be used in the East Kent Hospital Trust, providing a range of benefits including hygiene.
This contract is the latest in a series of contracts for the NHS, with our team having also completed other schemes for the East Kent Hospitals Trust both at the William Harvey Hospital and the QEQM Hospital, Margate.
