Description

The extension of an existing reinforced concrete slab to accommodate a state-of-the-art relocatable MRI unit, along with an associated support unit.

The relocatable MRI facility was prefabricated in Bristol and then transported to site as two abnormal loads.

Transporting the units to the hospital posed a significant logistical challenge, with the only access along a constrained road and under a narrow and low bridge. The units had to pass through the bridge with only a 50mm tolerance on both height and width, requiring careful coordination and precision.

Upon arrival at the site, a 250-tonne crane was ready to lift the units into their final position. The operation was completed late into the night, with the units successfully positioned by midnight, ensuring they were ready to be commissioned the following day.

With the project now fully complete, the MRI units provide cutting-edge diagnostic capabilities for the hospital.
