Phase 3 work starts on site at QEQM
We are delighted to be back on site at QEQM Hospital, Margate, to continue our extensive refurbishment of the Emergency Department following completion of Phases 1 and 2.
Phase 3 will rebuild the existing Resuscitation Unit, where some of the sickest patients in the hospital are treated. New partitions and resuscitation bed bays will be installed, alongside new utility rooms, storage areas, bathrooms and a commercial kitchen.
Work is also ongoing to convert back to final use those spaces which were designated as temporary patient priority areas while the previous phases of construction were underway.
A new ambulance road has also been created to provide vehicular access to the relocated Emergency Department entrance, while groundworks for road reinstatement and the provision of car parking continue.
Thomas Lovegrove Bacon, Senior Strategic Development Manager at East Kent Hospitals said:
"WW Martin work closely with the hospital teams to deliver much-needed new clinical areas for our patients. They are considerate and responsive to our staff and patients during what is a complex expansion programme at QEQM Hospital.”
Joanna Williams, Head of Nursing for Urgent and Emergency Care at QEQM said:
“We are very proud of the changes we are making to provide high quality facilities for our patients providing a much better patient experience and environment for our staff.”
Phase 1 - a new children’s emergency department, new treatment areas for adults, new entrance waiting area and much-needed space for staff to work, learn and rest.
Phase 2 - a new rapid assessment and treatment unit with twelve large new treatment rooms and dedicated mental health facilities.
