Work has commenced refurbishing and updating several areas of Buckland Hospital in Dover.
Collaborating closely with 2gether Support Solutions, Murphy Phillips, Gardiner & Theobald and Sweco, the newly reconfigured buildings for the East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust (EKHUFT NHS) will be completed over three phases.
Phase one involves the creation of a new external area that provides a flexible space for the hospital that can be adapted to meet changing needs, for instance this re-modelled space will initially be used to house a mobile MRI Unit ahead of other works being completed on site.
Phase two sees the current pharmacy building being transformed into a state-of-the-art MRI Suite. The rooms require specialist led lining to be installed within the walls to protect staff and visitors from harmful rays.
Phase three consists of an Urgent Treatment Centre being developed in a previously unused space, with a new layout and up-to-date fixtures and fittings making for a modern working environment and providing the public with additional facilities.
The project is being delivered in a phased manor to keep disruption to a minimum within a live hospital environment, with site logistics being carefully managed to maintain full health and safety requirements. The project is a continuation of our work in collaboration with East Kent Hospital Trust, with the rejuvenation of the buildings at Buckland Hospital allowing for enhanced care and an increase in capacity.
