We are delighted to have been appointed by Kent County Council to build this new two-storey school in Teynham, replacing the original buildings on site and enabling a significant increase in pupil intake.
The existing school building was erected as a temporary building around 50 years ago, but is still in use well beyond its originally anticipated operating life, suffering from inadequate insulation, heating and ventilation systems. The works will allow the school to increase from 210 pupils to 420 pupils, plus approximately 30 pre-school pupils at the privately operated nursery.
The new-build two-storey school will feature 12 general teaching classrooms, two reception classrooms, one practical space, one studio / Breakfast Club space, a learning resource centre, a large general purpose hall, SEN therapy and resource spaces, medical room, general admin space, WCs and associated circulation areas together with a separate nursery, MUGA, cycle spaces, landscaping, access and parking following demolition.
Speaking to Kent Online, headteacher Elizabeth Pearson said: “The new building will enable our pupils to enjoy a purpose-built facility, with specialist teaching areas and dedicated areas for sport, all with disabled access, including a lift to the first floor.
“A nursery space is also part of the design, as per the existing school.
“The new build will echo our school ethos beautifully as we learn, enjoy, grow towards a new era in school education here in leafy Teynham.”
