The works at Sittingbourne Community College involved the construction of a new three-storey classroom block, a two-storey extension to the existing school to provide a new science block, and new and improved general teaching facilities for the 1100-plus pupils at the school and sixth form.
The early programme of works for this project involved the demolition of existing buildings and extensive enabling works in order to create safe access to the school for the pupils during the construction work. As part of this phase of works, we were responsible for the construction of a new designated coach and bus park. This improved access to and from the school for vehicles, further improving safety but also reducing congestion on the local residential roads. This aspect of the work was led by our sister company WWM Civils Ltd, who utilised our detailed traffic management plans to carry out the Section 278 highways work on a busy section of the main A2 highway into and out of Sittingbourne, working closely with Kent Highways.Following these initial works, our team led by Darren Offen
(Finalist for Construction Manager of the Year Awards 2017) successfully completed the
construction of the new three-storey teaching classroom block and a three-storey
extension to the existing school in partnership with Kent County Council, working as their approved Construction Partner.
