The works at Sittingbourne Community College involved the construction of a new 3 storey teaching classroom block and a 2 storey extension to the existing school to provide a new science block and generally to create new and improved teaching facilities for the 1100 plus pupils at the school and sixth form.
The early programme of works for this project involved the demolition of existing buildings and extensive enabling works in order to create safe access to the school for the pupils during the construction work. As part of this phase of works, we were responsible for the construction of a new designated coach/bus park to improve access to and from the school for vehicles to further improve safety but to also reduce congestion on the local residential roads. This aspect of the work was led by our sister company WWM Civils Ltd who utilised our detailed traffic management plans to carry out the Section 278 highways work on a busy section of the main A2 highway into and out of Sittingbourne in close relationship with Kent Highways.Following these initial works, our team led by Darren Offen
(Finalist for Construction Manager of the Year Awards 2017) successfully undertook the
construction of the new 3 storey teaching classroom block and a 2 storey
extension to the existing school in partnership with Kent County Council as their approved Construction Partner.
